Focus, debate, challenge and occupational expertise. These are just some of the words associated with our monthly online forums. The @cademy has a fellowship of 12 people chosen for their knowledge, enthusiasm and commitment to lifelong learning. Frank Pignatell who is The @acdemy International Alumni said that he himself has himself benefited from lifelong learning. He left school with very few formal qualifications and went to work for 2 years as a bus conductor. “I made a complete mess of my Highers and ended up on the buses. Later on, I studied as an external student at my local college and ended up doing a degree in languages, a Masters in Education and then a Ph.D. Once I started learning, my problem was stopping!” Frank says the secret of success is to start off with what he calls ‘bite-sized’ pieces of learning. “People get an enormous boost of confidence by starting with a short course. It might only involve a few hours of learning or a few days but successfully completing it often gives them the learning bug.” |
